With the goal of creating theatrical productions that brings the world together, Toy Factory has engaged with local festivals and corporations in hopes of bringing unique and relevant stories to stage.
In 2015, Esplanade’s Hua Yi Festival commissioned Toy Factory to create Upstage, a play exploring 50 years of mandarin theatre in Singapore, as part of the SG50 celebrations.
Kumarajiva, a play about one of the most revered monks in Buddhist history, was commissioned by Fu Hai Chan Monastery in 2016 with hopes that it would inspire audiences to seek greater learning and learn the importance of perseverance, endurance and filial piety.
Most recently, Singapore’s Chin Kang Huay Kuan collaborated with us in 2018 on the production of Sometime Moon, Singapore’s first original musical with Hokkien songs to celebrate its 100-year anniversary and also the impact of the generous Clan Associations on the Singapore landscape throughout the years
We are currently immensely proud to be working with the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) from 2018 to 2020 to adapt and create a modern version of the revered Ming Opera masterpiece A Dream under the Southern Bough to the 21st Century audience.
